Residents upset by the number of pedestrian fatalities along the Mwenge – Tegeta corridor blocked Old Bagamoyo Road in protest Monday afternoon, creating chaos of Dar’s already congested afternoon rush hour.

A group of over 100 men and women gathered at a zebra crossing and barricaded the road with concrete blocks and tree branches.

While no official statement has been released at this time, residents reportedly chose to block the recently upgraded section of roadway due to it’s lack of speed bumps and high number of pedestrian fatalities.

However, the number of fatalities along the Mwenge – Tegeta roadway is unclear.

The 13 kilometre stretch of twinned roadway was officially opened in October 2014.
