German Federal President Joachim Gauck begins his state visit of Tanzania today, February 2.

Gauck is expected to hold political talks with President Jakaya Kikwete, members of parliament and civil society representatives in Dar es Salaam.

The 75-year-old former Lutheran Pastor, who became Bundespräsident in 2012, will also visit with President Ali Mohamed Shein on Zanzibar and participants of an inter-religious dialog forum.

During the four-day tour, Gauck will also deliver a speech at the East African Community (EAC) headquarters in Arush and visit the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

He will also officially hand over an Operations Command Centre for anti-poaching established by the Deutsche Zoologische Gesellschaft (German Zoological Society) in Seronera.

Gauck is to be accompanied by his partner, Daniela Schadt and a business delegation.
