After intervention by both Kenyan and Tanzanian heads of state, Kenya Airways flights are back to normal between Tanzania and Kenya effective immediately.

In addition to Kenya Airways flights resuming at a normal frequency, Tanzania’s tour operators are now able to once again access Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi, says Kenya’s foreign secretary Amina Mohammed.

“The two leaders agreed to reinstate the status quo,” says Mohammed.

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta and Tanzania’s President Jakaya Kikwete, who were both in Windhoek, Namibia over the weekend, met to discuss and resolve the situation on the sidelines of the inauguration of President Hage Geingob.

“The two heads of state emphasized the need to continue to discuss openly issues affecting the brotherly and long-standing bilateral relationship that exists between Tanzania and Kenya”

Tanzania reduced Kenya Airways flights into it’s airspace by over 60 percent after Kenya had banned Tanzanian registered tour vans from entering JKIA.
