A trio of Swedes have been reported as missing and police are treating the case as a kidnapping, say Swedish media.

It’s unclear exactly how long they’ve been missing and exactly where or why the three Swedes were in Tanzania.

The Swedish State Department and police force are working on the matter, which they have classified as a kidnapping.

The Swedish Ambassador to Tanzania, Lennarth Hjelmaker as well as Foreign Ministry have been briefed on the case.

“We are trying to gather as much information as we can. When it comes to missing persons, it’s a police matter,” says the Foreign Ministry’s Anna Ekberg.

Swedish National Police say they won’t comment on cases involving kidnapping of Swedes abroad and Tanzanian Police spokeswoman Advera Senso-Bulimba says she is not ready to comment.

The Swedish embassy encourages its citizens visit Tanzania but warns of large crowds turning violent, crime and terror threats targeting Western establishments.
