Remember those 24 hours of rain that were expected to stop yesterday?

Well, the Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) says a continuation of intermittent heavy rains, thundershowers and wind gusts are expected today (Friday.)

“We predicted a 24-hour period of rains, but [yesterday’s] weather shows that the rains will continue up to [today,]” says TMA director general Agnes Kijazi.

Kijazi says yesterday 132mm of rain fell in downtown Dar yesterday, 96mm at the port and 110mm at the airport.

The TMA had predicted 50mm of rain.

Yesterday, eight people — including a two year old — were killed, hundreds displaced and more than 38 homes in Kigamboini were totally submerged.

Road closures snarled traffic and left many unable to get to or from work.
