A cholera outbreak in Dar has killed four and hospitalized dozens.

At least four people have been killed in a cholera outbreak that has hospitalized dozens more.

Most of the patients are from Manzese, Tandale and Kijitonyama says the Citizen newspaper.

“Teams of health workers have been dispatched to several hot spots in Kinondoni District. Our priority is to control the outbreak before it spreads further,” says Kinondoni municipal director Musa Naty.

“We are treating patients having symptoms of the disease, but the main aim is to prevent it,” says Naty.

The source of the outbreak has yet to be determined.

Isolation wards have been set up at Sinza and Mwananyamala hospitals.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) preventing cholera is dependent on drinking clean water, washing hands with soap and clean water, using latrines properly, cooking food well and ensuring food and water don’t mix with feces.
