Dar residents took to the polls on Sunday as Tanzania votes in presidential, parliamentary and local elections.

Queues were been long at times, but in our spot checks at polling station around the city everything was orderly.

“In general it’s peaceful , it’s calm, it’s organized,” says EU election observer Judith Sargentini shortly before polls closed at 16:00.

“We are not worried about fraud, because the government is well prepared,” says Ali, a 24-year-old who stood in line for two hours at a polling station in Kariakoo.

“It is important for the people to have their voices heard.”
