Five miners survived over 40 days trapped in a mine in northwestern Tanzania before finally being rescued on Sunday, November 15.
Six miners became trapped at an artisanal mine in Kahama district, Shinyanga region on October 5, says Ministry of Energy and Minerals spokesperson Badra Masoud.
One miner died, however the remaining five were rescued on November 15 and have been admitted to hospital in Kahama.
The miners survived by eating roots and drinking water, says Masoud.
In April 2015, 19 people were killed in a mine collapse in the same region.
