Update – 20:30: At approximately 18:00 the vessel was freed without further incident.
A fuel tanker vessel named ‘Miracle’ has run aground at the mouth of Dar’s harbour.
The accident occurred shortly after 08:00 on Saturday, February 13, when the departing vessel tried to divert around a fishing boat, says Tanzania Ports Authority acting port manager Hebel Mhanga.
“There is no risk as vessels are berthing and departing without any problem and there is no danger of listing,” says Mhanga.
“The vessel has nothing on board as she offloaded all the fuel and she has just remained with ballast water.”
Crews will try to free the vessel at high tide, around 19:00 on Saturday evening.
The Marshall Islands flagged vessel Miracle was en route to the United Arab Emirates.
