Singing love ballads and songs of daily struggles in his husky voice, Zimbabwean musician Oliver Mtukudzi danced with his guitar under the cool night sky.

Every generation thinks they have it the toughest, Mtukudzi, 63, told the crowd between songs at the East Africa Vibes concert on Saturday night.

“There is no easy life at all… you just have to work harder.”

The concert, held at Nafasi Art Space in Mikocheni, also featured musicians, poets and spoken word artists from Uganda, Kenya as well as Tanzania.

A day prior to the concert, selected musicians participated in a masterclass with musicians Eric Wainaina  (Kenya) and Oliver Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe.)
