Update: 17:45 — As a result of logistics, the landing and reception of the Vintage Air Rally is now being held in Zanzibar, Dar Post has learned.

The landing will take place between 13:00 – 14:00 at Zanzibar’s Abeid Amani Karume Airport.

The vintage aircraft will not be landing in Dar at any time.

Update: 16:00 — We’re now getting conflicting information on whether or not the vintage air rally will be landing in Dar after all.

Dar Post will post more information as it becomes available.

A vintage air rally following in the footsteps of pioneering flights of the 1920s is working its way down the continent.

And on Wednesday they’ll be in Dar from approximately 12:00 noon to 17:00, says Vintage Air Rally communications officer Jeremy Martin.

The team of about 20 biplanes planes has flown from Cairo to Khartoum, past the highlands of Ethiopia — where they were all detained without access to consular assistance for over two days — and onward to Nairobi — where one plane suffered an engine failure and was destroyed in the subsequent crash landing.

The team will move on to Zambia, Zimbabwe and finally rounding out their 10-country adventure in Cape Town.

Along the way, they have been raising support and awareness for charity projects.
