Update: ‘something went wrong’ with power grid

Update – 19:40: Tanesco says ‘normal conditions’ were restored to all utility customers across the country by 16:00 on Sunday afternoon.

No further information was given about the nature of the outage.


An unexpected error caused disruptions to the national power grid on Sunday, December 18.

“Something went wrong with the national grid at 12:52,” says a notice posted on the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) Facebook page.

“We will continue to provide information to customers, technicians continue to work to restore power.”

Dar Post has received reports of outages in Upanga, Kinondoni as well as Arusha.
