Update – 12:15: Normal operations are now said to be resuming at terminal 2 at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA), Dar Post has learned.

Departing passengers had been using the facilities at the old terminal 1 on Friday morning, January 13, following the overnight fire.

An overnight fire at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) is forcing passengers to use the old terminal 1.

Passengers are currently departing using the much smaller terminal 1, Dar Post confirmed by telephone with the Tanzania Airports Authority.

Unconfirmed reports on social media say the fire started shortly after 23:00 Thursday (January 12.).

Photos on social media show a fire contained near the arrivals area, with smoke pouring through the main arrival doors.

Terminal 2 handles over 2.5 million passengers each year.
