Update – 22:30: An unknown number of patients from the crash were transported to Nairobi in critical condition.

AMREF Flying Doctors says they received multiple crash victims in ‘critical condition.’

A small plane crashed at Sasakwa airstrip, just outside Serengeti National Park earlier today, January 2.

Air Excel staff have confirmed the incident to Dar Post, but declined to comment on the exact nature of the incident.

Unconfirmed reports on social media claim that a Cessna Caravan II crashed and caught fire at the airstrip, which serves the exclusive lodges in the Singita Grumeti Reserve.

It’s reported that five passengers and the pilot suffered unspecified injuries.

The Cessna Caravan II can seat up to 12 passengers.
