The Dar es Salaam Charity Goat Races, where people spend the day drinking in the sun while betting on goats running in circles, has provided invaluable financial support for local charities.
Over the last 16 years, they have raised over 1,100,000,000 TSH ($500,000 USD) for these charities.
“The Goat Races has had a fantastic run,” says event co-chair Rachel Carlin.
But all good things come to an end, and the very last goat races will be held on September 16.
Event organizers didn’t go into details as to why, but hinted something new might fill the void.
“It’s time for something new,” says Carlin.
