A heavy rainfall warning has been issued by the Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) for Tuesday evening and Wednesday.
“Heavy rains are expected tonight, March 8, and tomorrow, March 9, over some areas of Tanga, Dar es salaam, Pwani, Morogoro, Lindi, Mtwara regions and over the isles of Unguja and Pemba,” says the TMA in a press release.
Heavy rainfall of over 50mm is expected to fall along coastal areas of Tanzania, including Dar es Salaam.
Earlier this year, the TMA warned that El Nino would likely bring ‘fury and destruction’ to Tanzania.
“It is important that the public be prepared for the worst flooding ever,” says TMA director general Agnes Kijazi, as quoted in The Guardian newspaper on January 1.
