On Sunday, June 5, the largest gathering of cyclists in East Africa will take place in Dar.

“The aim of the Dar cycle caravan is to promote use of bicycles in the city of Dar,” says event organizer Mejah Mbuya, of UWABA.

This year, the caravan falls on World Environment Day, a good way to highlight the light environmental impact of bicycles, says Mbuya.

“If we are all environmentally conscious, then we can be able to encourage more people to use bicycles as an everyday means of transportation,” says Mbuya.

UWABA advocates for better engineering of cycle lanes during road construction, enforcement of road safety laws, education of road users, environmental awareness of the benefits of cycling, and encouraging respect of all road users.

The 15th cycle caravan is expected to have over 500 participants.
