An earthquake in Kigoma region shook western Tanzania early Sunday morning, April 30.
The magnitude 5.3 quake struck at 01:53 says the US Geological Survey (USGS), which records all major earthquakes globally.
The epicenter of the quake was in Mahale Mountains National Park, on the shores of Lake Tanganyika.
Local media are reporting that the quake happened in Bukoba, the scene of a deadly magnitude 5.7 earthquake in 2016.
Bukoba is over 600 kilometers north of the Mahale Mountains.
