Paddling to Zanzibar

Glenn Davies is going to Zanzibar for the weekend, but he thinks he’s the first one to ever attempt it like this.

At 04:00 on Saturday, June 10, Davies will join a group of kayakers departing from the Dar Yacht Club — already an impressive feat — except Davies will be on a stand up paddle board.

So far has he knows, this is the first time someone has attempted to paddle board from Dar to Zanzibar.

It’s a 36 kilometer paddle from mainland to the southern tip of Zanzibar, and the fastest in the group are expected to reach Zanzibar by 10:00.

Seas are expected to be rough, so plenty of support boats and a doctor will be on hand to assist the participants if the need arises.
