Union day, April 26, is the latest public holiday to be magufulified.
“People should cerebrate this day at home or continue with their personal business,” says presidential spokesperson Gerson Msigwa, adding that it is still a holiday.
President John Magufuli has instead directed the $915,000 USD (2 billion TSH) normally spent on the celebrations instead go toward a road expansion project in Mwanza.
Union day commemorates the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964.
Last December, Magufuli cancelled Independence day and instead spend the day cleaning the streets.
